startRenderMonitoring

Starts owner-thread monitoring at an operation boundary with existing nodes as the baseline. A second active monitor, reentrant access, or an unavailable tree is rejected without changing the screen. The caller closes the monitor; terminal tree cleanup also releases it automatically.
