Appends an immutable layer from a live generation of the same presenter to the next reserved extent.
Both generations retain independent initialization and GUI-consumption lifetimes. Retirement drops a generation's reference only after its fences and pins settle; storage closes after the last reference retires. No native allocation, upload, callback, or blocking wait occurs.
Parameters

unsealed destination whose next extent must match the source layer.
source
complete sealed, live, nonquarantined generation of the same presenter.
index
source layer index in its reserved order.
Throws
for an invalid generation, owner, extent, lifecycle, or thread.
for a source layer outside its reserved list.
when the shared reference count cannot be represented.
